Jetty Park unveils new pavilion and playground

Port Canaveral has opened a new pavilion and playground at Jetty Park, as part of a multi-million-dollar renovation of the facility that draws 400,000 visitors a year.

The June 14 opening coincided with Flag Day and included food, games and giveaways.

The new pavilion includes seating, restrooms and connections for up to three food trucks to operate on rotation each day. The playground features slides, climbing bars, turf surfacing and shade structures.

The additions follow the opening of a $2.7 million camp store last summer. Future phases of the renovation include upgrades to cabins, a dog park, updated bathhouses, improved roadways and lighting, newly paved RV and camping sites, and renovations of the Rodney S. Ketcham Boat Ramp.

This past year’s enhancements to Jetty Park are part of a five-year $500 million capital improvements program, which is itself one component of massive investments being made across Port Canaveral.

Earlier this year Port Canaveral passed PortMiami to become the busiest cruise port in the world. Capt. John Murray, Port Canaveral CEO, announced there would be $912 million in overall infrastructure spending over the next five years to accommodate the massive growth in both cargo and cruise traffic.

Port Canaveral is also planning to construct along with the Brevard Zoo a $100 million Bowen Aquarium and Conservation Center, which is expected to open after two to three years of construction.
