Is Tiger Woods playing at US Open?: Status update for PGA legend

We’ve officially made it to the third major of the year as the U.S. Open gets underway from Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in New York.

There’s a deep field on hand as 156 golfers compete to add a major win to their resume and be etched in history. Several former winners will be in the field, but a multi-time winner won’t be present.

Tiger Woods will not be competing this week as he’s away from competition currently.

Woods had his third recorded accident and his second DUI arrest since 2009 in March. He announced on March 31 that he would step away from golf for an undetermined period of time, calling it “necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”

Woods sunk a 15-foot putt on the 18th hole to force a playoff in the 2008 US Open. He won the tournament for the third and most recent time.
