IDP Rookie Profile: Derrick Moore in redraft leagues

We are diving into some IDP fantasy football content this offseason as we look to bring in all sorts of football fans to Bucs Wire. Defensive players matter in plenty of fantasy football formats, and knowing which rookies have a real path to snaps can be the difference between finding value and chasing names.

Next up is Detroit Lions edge rusher Derrick Moore.

Moore enters the NFL after spending his entire college career at Michigan, where he developed into a team captain and one of the more productive pass rushers in the Big Ten. His pressure totals climbed every year, and his final season with the Wolverines gave fantasy managers a real reason to pay attention.

Reason to Believe in Derrick Moore in 2026: Immediate opportunity across from Aidan Hutchinson

The biggest reason to believe in Moore for 2026 is the situation. He is currently listed as Detroit’s starting right defensive end, which is not something fantasy managers should ignore. Rookie edge rushers can take time to develop, but a starting role opposite Aidan Hutchinson gives Moore a much cleaner path to early IDP relevance than most players in this class.

Moore was not a one-year flash at Michigan. He became more productive every season, finishing his college career with his best pass-rush year. His 2025 PFF profile was impressive, with an 89.9 defensive grade, a 92.4 pass-rush grade, and 41 total pressures. That matters because Detroit is not asking him to become the main attraction right away. Hutchinson will demand attention, and that should leave Moore with favorable one-on-one chances.

The fit also makes sense. Moore has the size and power to play as a true defensive end, and his game fits a Lions front that wants physical edge setters who can collapse the pocket. He is not just a designated speed rusher, which gives him a better chance to stay involved if he proves he can hold up against the run. D.J. Wonnum will factor into the rotation, but Moore has the upside to become the better long-term fantasy play.

2026 Outlook

Moore should be viewed as a rookie DL3 or DL4 in redraft IDP leagues, depending on scoring. If your format rewards sacks heavily, he becomes more interesting as a late-round swing because Detroit’s defensive structure could create early pressure opportunities for him.

The tackle floor may not be high enough to make him an every-week starter right away, but the role is strong enough to keep him on the radar. Moore is a better best-ball or matchup-based IDP target in 2026, with the chance to become more if he holds off Wonnum and turns his starting spot into a full-time role.
