Going, going … gone.
Bobby Bowden’s longtime Killearn Estates home has sold for $737,000, which includes a 10% buyer’s premium, as the real estate portion of a two-week auction managed by Wiregrass Auction Group of Thomasville, Georgia, closed March 17.
The highest bid of $670,000 was placed by Reagan Hobbs, a 1995 grad of FSU in marketing. It could take up to 24 hours for the real estate contract to be finalized.
The auction included Bowden’s home along with his memorabilia, personal belongings and family heirlooms. Bidding on the personal property portion of the auction was split into two days due to the volume of inventory (over 1,500 items) and is scheduled to close at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Bowden — Florida State’s legendary football coach for 34 seasons — and his wife Ann purchased the Tallahassee home for $113,500 in January 1976 after his hiring from West Virginia.
Built in 1971, the 4,639-square-foot residence is a four-bedroom, 3½-bath “New Traditional French” style home situated on a 0.57-acre lot with frontage along the private, recently renovated Killearn Club golf course.
The property was most recently valued by Leon County at approximately $681,000.
Bowden lived in the home from 1976 until his death in 2021 at age 91. Ann Bowden, who celebrated her 93rd birthday last September, has since moved to Alabama to live with family.
