There's a new scratch-made ice cream shop coming to downtown Holland

There’s a new, year-round ice cream shop coming to Eighth Street in Holland.

Love’s Ice Cream will open later this summer in the former Francesca’s at 5 W. Eighth St. — according to Chief Operating Officer Jake Stacy. The move is part of an active expansion plan, including a soon-to-open spot in Ada.

“We are very excited to start (a second chapter) of Love’s Ice Cream,” Stacy said. “Ada and Holland were the two locations (we wanted) as we worked toward expansion of the business and getting this product in front of more people.”

Love’s Ice Cream, one of the first businesses to open in Grand Rapids’ Downtown Market, was founded by Chris McKellar in 2013. The location next to GDK Park was particularly nostalgic for the company, since it’s where McKellar proposed to his now-wife.

“When we heard about this location … the stars kind of aligned and it was meant to be,” Stacy said.

While there isn’t a set opening date, customers can follow along for updates at facebook.com/lovesicecreamgr.

“We feel really good about the vision we have for the space and we’ll move as quickly as we can,” Stacy said.

The shop will have similar offerings to the brand’s location in downtown Grand Rapids, including made-from-scratch ice cream, dairy-free gelatos, chocolate confections and gluten-free cookies and brownies — plus some new and exclusive items.

“We are so excited to come to town,” Stacy said.
