Vote for the LSJ girls athlete of week: May 4-9

Here is a look at the latest individuals in the running to be voted the Lansing State Journal girls high school athlete of the week.

Voting is open until noon Wednesday, May 13, to determine a winner, who will be featured in the LSJ.

Madi Hendy, St. Johns girls soccer

The center back played a key role for the Redwings picking up a CAAC Red win over Williamston and playing to a draw with Grand Ledge. Hendy had both goals in the win over Williamston and added the lone goal in the tie with Grand Ledge.

Laci Neal, Dansville softball

Neal contributed to the Aggies capturing the title at the Portland Invitational on Saturday, May 9. She combined for 10 hits in wins over Portland, Okemos and Portland St. Patrick. That included hitting a three-run home run while driving in five in a win over Portland and adding three RBIs in a victory over Portland St. Patrick. Neal also struck out 16 while tossing a no-hitter against St. Patrick. Neal also had six hits in a doubleheader sweep of Saranac and had 19 strikeouts while hurling a complete game in one of the wins. 

Shea O’Neil, Williamston softball

The junior slugged six home runs and three doubles over a week stretch for the Hornets. That included hitting a two-run home run and a grand slam in the same inning against St. Johns on Tuesday, May 5. O’Neil also hit a grand slam and three-run homer in back-to-back innings against Lansing Catholic on Thursday, May 7.
