Bucs' Vita Vea named as honorable mention in ESPN poll

Vita Vea may not have cracked ESPN’s top 10 defensive tackles, but the longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers standout continues to earn respect from those around the league.

As part of ESPN’s annual positional rankings compiled by Jeremy Fowler, Vea received honorable mention after voting from NFL executives, coaches, and scouts. One NFL defensive line coach praised the veteran’s impact while explaining why he remains one of the league’s toughest interior defenders.

“He’s still such a load to deal with, and he played a little lighter last year, which is good for him.”

Even after several seasons as one of the NFL’s premier nose tackles, Vea continues to produce at a high level. According to PFF, he finished the 2025 season with a 72.8 overall defensive grade while recording 51 total pressures, four sacks, eight quarterback hits, and 39 hurries across 764 defensive snaps. He also posted a 77.0 pass-rush grade and added 21 defensive stops despite routinely drawing double teams.

Vea’s consistency has become one of the defining traits of his career. Since becoming a full-time starter, he has developed into one of the league’s most complete interior defensive linemen, combining elite run-stuffing ability with the power to collapse the pocket from the middle of the defensive line. His production has remained remarkably steady, posting at least 38 pressures in each of the last five seasons while earning PFF overall grades above 72.0 in six of the last seven years.

The Buccaneers will once again lean on Vea to anchor the middle of their defense in 2026. With first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr., Calijah Kancey, and Yaya Diaby expected to generate pressure off the edge, Vea’s ability to occupy blockers and create disruption inside remains one of the biggest reasons Tampa Bay believes its defensive front can take a significant step forward this season.
