Trump, who has voted by mail, calls it ' corrupt' in speech to nation

President Donald Trump again called for restrictions on mail-in voting, a process he himself has used to cast votes in Florida elections.

“Hopefully, there will be no corrupt mail-in ballots,” the president said in a 26-minute address in which he demanded Congress pass election-related legislation.

Trump, who has been a Florida resident and voter since the 2020 election, has effectively used mail-in ballots in the past. Most recently, he cast his vote “by Mail Ballot,” according to the Palm Beach Supervisor of elections website.

That vote was in the March 24 special election to fill a vacancy in the Florida House of Representatives’ District 87, which includes Trump’s Palm Beach estate at Mar-a-Lago. Democrat Emily Gregory won the race, flipping a seat that had been held by a Republican, Mike Caruso, who resigned after being named the county’s clerk of courts.

Nonetheless, Trump again railed about mail-in voting, which election experts have hailed as successful and which Florida has been a model.

“Mail-in ballots are inherently corrupt,” he said.

Trump again called on the U.S. Senate to pass the controversial Save America Act, which Trump claims will bolster election security but critics say is a thinly veiled attempt to make voting more difficult.

The legislation would, in fact, put restrictions on the use of voting by mail or hand-delivered ballots.

“So you would have no mail-in ballots, except for illness, disability, military deployment, or travel, if you’re going away, or business, or vacation,” the president stated.
