A struggle led to Pensacola man being shot in the face. ECSO rules it self-defense

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and Office of the State Attorney will not press charges against a woman who shot an Ensley man in the face Aug. 9.

According to ECSO spokesperson Sgt. Melony Peterson, deputies responded to Castlegate Drive where they found a male with a gunshot wound to the face.

“The female that was present at the home with the victim stated she had been invited over by the victim,” Peterson said. “And during the course of the evening, the male then ordered her a Lyft driver to come pick her up, and the female stated the victim began to act strange and even pulled a gun on her.”

Peterson said the two began to struggle over the firearm and it discharged into the man’s face. The woman then called 911.

The ECSO said the woman’s statements matched crime scene evidence and the shooting was determined to be self-defense. The condition of the man is unknown.
