A young, female pedestrian has died after a crash on Vineyard Avenue in Oxnard on July 18, according to authorities.
Around 7:49 a.m., emergency personnel including the Oxnard Fire Department responded to a call of a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian at Vineyard Avenue and Central Avenue, Battalion Chief Aaron Baker said.
Firemen found a pedestrian with “critical injuries” at the scene and one fireman accompanied the pedestrian to the local hospital in the ambulance, Baker said.
Fire personnel are asked to stay with the injured person and ride in the back of the ambulance to help when injuries of the person are severe, Baker added.
The California Highway Patrol’s Ventura office is investigating the matter.
The pedestrian, described as a young female, succumbed to injuries from the crash and died at the hospital, acting Sgt. Michael Neuner of the CHP said.
Investigators have conducted initial interviews with several witnesses for this incident, Neuner said.
The young pedestrian is suspected of crossing Vineyard Avenue “against the traffic signal” when she was struck by a Chevrolet Traverse SUV headed southbound on Vineyard, Neuner said.
The driver of the Chevy remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor for the driver, Neuner said.
CHP closed lanes for less than an hour for the investigation, the acting sergeant said.
