San Bernardino County Fire, Cal Fire and the Forest Service first responded to a report of a vehicle emitting smoke off Interstate 15.

Arriving firefighters found a badly damaged vehicle on its roof, down an 80-foot embankment off the right shoulder of southbound I-15. Crews upgraded the assignment to a rescue as they moved down the hillside to the vehicle to begin patient care, San Bernardino County Fire officials stated.

First responders found a total of three adults inside the vehicle. Two individuals with critical injuries and the other passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Jhenéy Wallace, 20, was identified as the person who died. Wallace was a 2024 graduate of Victor Valley High School and student at Victor Valley College.

One of the injured adults was hoisted up to a medical helicopter and flown to a local trauma center. The second injured individual was brought up the hillside and transferred to a waiting ambulance, where they were taken to a local trauma center.

The identities of the two survivors have not been released.
