SPRINGFIELD, IL — A Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol has resigned.
Matthew Klenke of Springfield was still in his probationary period after being hired by the department Jan. 4.
The stop by an Illinois State Police trooper happened on Stanford Avenue near Junction Circle at 12:37 a.m. on July 12.
According to a statement from Sangamon County, Klenke was placed on administrative leave after his arrest.
Klenke cooperated with the internal investigation, which was completed July 16, the statement indicated.
Klenke gave his resignation at that time. The resignation was effective immediately.
The State Journal-Register has submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to ISP.
