Woman accused of DUI crash with sheriff's car in Apple Valley

A Big Bear woman is accused of drunken driving after officials say she blew through a stop sign and crashed into a sheriff’s patrol unit in Apple Valley on Monday night.

The crash took place about 9:45 p.m. April 6 at Dale Evans Parkway and Corwin Road, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The woman was driving a Toyota RAV4 west on Corwin Road just prior to the collision, officials said. A sheriff’s department sergeant was headed south on Dale Evans Parkway.

“[The Toyota] failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection at a high rate of speed, colliding with the patrol unit,” sheriff’s officials said in a written statement. The Toyota overturned following the impact.

Authorities said the deputy was not hurt. The driver of the RAV4, identified as 42-year-old Sheila Dash of Big Bear, was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

“During the investigation, Dash displayed signs and symptoms consistent with alcohol impairment,” according to the statement.

She was ultimately arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and released from custody the following morning with a citation, county booking records show.

Corwin Road was shut down near the crash scene for more than three hours due to the investigation, which remained ongoing.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information, was asked to contact Deputy J. DeBerg of the Hesperia Police Department at 760) 947-1500, or Sheriff’s Dispatch at (760) 956-5001. Tips may also be provided anonymously to the WeTip hotline at (844) 909-3096.
