The San Francisco 49ers don’t report for training camp for another month, but they got some good news from injured superstar tight end George Kittle during the annual Tight End University summit in Nashville.
Kittle, who helped found the annual meetup of tight ends, was in attendance and participating early in this year’s event. ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry on Tuesday posted video of warmups from the first practice that showed Kittle not only jogging, but doing some light cutting on his surgically repaired Achilles tendon. Kittle suffered the injury in the 49ers’ wild card win over the Philadelphia Eagles on January 11.
Early indications from Kittle were that he’d be back earlier than most expected. An Achilles tear in January might’ve cost him all of the 2026 campaign, but Kittle and the 49ers have maintained optimism that he’d be back early in the season. The door is even open for his return in the season opener vs. the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia.
This video is more evidence that Kittle is trending toward being ready early in the season. It’s a far cry from suiting up in pads and playing high-level football, but it’s a good sign seeing him move this well just six months removed from the injury and with a month left until training camp.
