An out-of-compliance registered sex offender was attacked by bystanders and ultimately arrested after exposing himself to multiple victims at a Victorville bus stop last week, authorities said.
Steven Basulto, 35, of Riverside was scheduled to appear in San Bernardino County Superior Court Tuesday, June 23, following his arrest on Wednesday, June 17, San Bernardino County Superior Court and booking records show.
The alleged crimes took place shortly before 1 p.m. June 17 at a bus stop in the 16800 block of D Street, in front of the Victor Valley Transportation Center, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were first summoned to respond to a report of an assault, sheriff’s officials said in a written statement. They encountered Basulto, who had been assaulted, but declined prosecution.
“Witnesses reported Basulto was seated at a bus stop wearing a dress without wearing undergarments,” the statement said. “Basulto exposed his genitals to multiple victims and continued the behavior after being asked to stop several times.”
In addition, investigators discovered Basulto was a registered sex offender and had failed to comply with his registration requirements, officials said.
He was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure, failure to register as a sex offender and failure to report an address change by a registered sex offender, sheriff’s officials said.
He was yet to enter a plea in court. He was being held without bail.
