A Ventura man was arrested after barricading himself inside his home for about five hours on April 22 following an alleged domestic violence incident, according to authorities.
Around 5 p.m., officers from the Ventura Police Department responded to a call from neighbors reporting hearing yelling from a house on Buena Vista Street at Aliso Street, said Cmdr. Todd Hourigan of the department.
Officers arrived and found a Ventura woman in her 70s, who said she was allegedly injured during the domestic dispute with her husband, also in his 70s, he said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and her husband refused to come out and barricaded himself inside his home, Hourigan said.
About 10 police officers were initially deployed to respond to the incident, he said.
Officers found the man had a gun registered in his name and activated a SWAT team, K-9 unit, crisis negotiators and a drone team, Hourigan said.
A couple of houses adjacent were evacuated and some traffic control was in place at the scene, the commander said.
The man surrendered himself without incident shortly before 10 p.m., said police Cmdr. Trenner Marchetti April 23.
The 73-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of felony inflicting injury on a spouse and a misdemeanor for resisting, jail records show. He was booked into Ventura County jail with bail set at $20,000.
He is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court April 24, according to jail records.
