MANITOWOC – Memorial Day weekend marks not only the unofficial start of summer, but also is an important time to remember those who have died in service to their country.
Here’s a look at some events in the lakeshore area to help make the three-day holiday weekend a memorable one.
Manitowoc
Attend the Memorial Day parade and ceremony
The parade begins at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day (Monday, May 25) on the corner of South Eighth Street and Washington Street, with a ceremony to follow at the Veterans’ Memorial across from Evergreen Cemetery on North Eight Street.
Rock out to Road Trip at The Wharf
Head to The Wharf (606 Quay St.), an open-air venue along the Manitowoc River. Road Trip will play country music from the 1970s to present from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Memorial Day.
Check out the Sub Pub
The Sub Pub on the Water at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum (75 Maritime Drive) will kick off its season early with a preview night from 5 to 10 p.m. on Memorial Day. The family-friendly venue serves both adult and non-alcoholic beverages. Take your own food, and even compete with friends and family in a game of oversized battleship.

Event officials say all area military veterans, active-duty personnel and reservists are invited to participate in Memorial Day events, including the following:

The Kubale O’Connell VFW Post 6179 activities will visit the following cemeteries on Monday, May 25, as part of the Memorial Day activities, which are open to the public:
