USC baseball ranked No. 19 USA TODAY Coaches Poll after Oregon series

Over the weekend, the USC baseball team wrapped up its regular season by dropping two of three games at Oregon. The Trojans finished the regular season with an overall record of 42-14 and a 20-10 mark in conference play.

Following the series, USC dropped six spots in the latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll. The Trojans now sit at No. 19 in the rankings, six spots behind Oregon, who moved up three spots to No. 12.

While the Ducks did win the series, all three of the games were decided by one run, with two going to extra innings. In addition, the two teams finished with the exact same record in Big Ten play. Hence, having Oregon seven spots ahead of USC in the rankings is a rather questionable decision by the voters.

Right now, however, the Trojans have more pressing matters at hand than the polls. On Friday, USC will open up play at the Big Ten Tournament in Omaha. A strong conference tournament performance could very well be the difference between the Trojans getting to host an NCAA regional and having to go on the road for one the following week.
