Verona Fire burns 200 acres; evacuations ordered in Homeland area

A fast-growing vegetation fire in Homeland prompted evacuation orders as it grew to about 200 acres on Tuesday, May 19, Cal Fire said.

One firefighter had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, the agency said.

The fire was reported at 12:20 p.m. at Juniper Springs Road and Verona Lane. It was “burning at a dangerous rate of spread,” Cal Fire said. The blaze was about five acres around 12:45 p.m. but the fire agency said it had reached 200 acres by 3 p.m.

It was one of several fires currently burning in Southern California, which include ones in Riverside and Angeles National Forest.

Evacuation areas for Verona Fire

Evacuations orders are in place for the areas listed below, according to Cal Fire. A map of evacuation orders and warnings are available online at protect.genasys.com.

Where is Verona Fire evacuation shelter?

An evacuation shelter is at West Valley High School located at 3401 Mustang Way in Hemet.

There is also a refuge for small and large animals at the San Jacinto Animal Shelter located at 581 South Grand Avenue in San Jacinto.
