Firefighters were working a vegetation fire that grew to 5 acres in Shasta Lake.
The Shasta Fire was reported just after 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 7 in the area of Shasta Dam Boulevard and Interstate 5 and prompted authorities to request protection for homes on Akrich Street. There was no immediate structure threat and the fire’s forward progress was stopped at 1:07 p.m., Watch Duty said.
The fire initially had a moderate rate of spread, according to crews who were fighting the fire from the air.

The fire is the third wildfire incident this weekend as the Redding area experiences gusty wind and is forecast to be under a fire weather watch starting on Wednesday, June 10.
Two fires broke out on Saturday. The Quartz Fire in north Redding was stopped at 2 acres, and the Clear Fire in the 17000 block of Clear Creek Road grew to 3 acres before fire crews stopped it.

Wind on Sunday afternoon blew from north-northwest at about 13 mph toward the south, according to the National Weather Service.
Fire weather watch in Northern California
The fire weather watch for parts of the Sacramento Valley is forecast to go into effect in the Redding area at 11 a.m. on Wednesday and to expire at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 11.
North wind could blow 15 mph to 25 mph and gusts could be as strong as 30 mph to 40 mph, with the strongest wind along the far western Sacramento Valley, the weather service’s Sacramento office said.
The weather service said the highest risk is along and west of the Interstate 5 corridor in the Sacramento Valley.
