2026 Lakers draft prospects: Tamin Lipsey

The Los Angeles Lakers are about to begin what could turn out to be a very consequential offseason. They’re projected to have tens of millions of dollars of salary cap space, as well as two future first-round draft picks to offer in a trade, and those resources could allow them to start to truly build a championship-caliber team around Luka Doncic.

Los Angeles will also have the No. 25 pick in this year’s draft. They have been working out prospects in this year’s draft class, including Tamin Lipsey, a point guard from Iowa State University.

Lipsey spent four years with the Cyclones and averaged 11 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.3 steals a game during his time there. While he’s just 6-foot-1, he has been lauded for his high basketball IQ, point-of-attack defense and overall toughness.

His 200-pound frame and 6-foot-5 wingspan help him on the defensive end, which is where he shines the brightest. Lipsey is also a capable floor general who can attack downhill and hit the open man.

However, he isn’t a 3-point threat — he shot 39.1% from 3-point range as a sophomore but didn’t shoot better than 33.1% from that distance during any other season with the Cyclones. He also lacks top-level athleticism and isn’t able to consistently create shots for himself.

Lipsey is projected to possibly be a late second-round draft pick.
