Silverado senior Isabel Maust qualified for the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 swimming finals in two individual events as Desert Sky League swimmers turned in a strong showing at the prelims at Mt. San Antonio College Wednesday, May 6.
Maust advanced in both the girls 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. The top 18 swimmers in each event qualified for the championship finals.
Maust placed fifth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.74 seconds and finished seventh in the 100 freestyle at 54.21. Abigail Tamayo of Pacifica posted the top prelim mark in the race just ahead of Maust at 24.03 seconds.
Maust also competed in two relay events alongside sisters Paola and Briana Maust, and teammate Alexandria Cramer. The quartet finished 19th in the 4×100 freestyle relay with a time of 3:56.14 and will serve as an alternate for the finals.
On the boys side, Silverado juniors Tommy Fernandez and Cameron McIlroy also qualified for the Division 3 finals. Fernandez placed 15th in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:04.42, while McIlroy took 16th in the 100 butterfly at 54.95.
At the Division 4 prelims on Tuesday, Granite Hills freshman Sosetina Esquibel qualified for the finals in three events. Esquibel placed fourth in the girls 50 freestyle with a time of 25.84.
She also teamed with Melana Serrano, Bethany Bright and Sophia Knight to place sixth in both the 4×50 freestyle relay at 1:50.87 and the 4×100 freestyle relay at 4:09.57.
Burroughs senior Dustin Bui will be the lone boys Desert Sky League representative in the Division 4 finals after taking first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.78. Bui also finished fourth in the 50 freestyle at 22.20.
The Division 4 Finals are scheduled for Thursday at 4 p.m.
The Division 3 Finals are set for Friday at 9 a.m.

Granite Hills 10, Silverado 2
At Victorville, Vincent Jarvis struck out eight and allowed two runs over six innings as the Cougars closed the regular season with a victory.
Aiden Vasquez went 3 for 3 with one RBI, one run and one stolen base; Kaleb Kutz went 2 for 4 with one RBI, one run and two stolen bases; and Travon Jackson Jr. went 2 for 4 with one RBI and one run.
Adelanto 5, Barstow 2
At Adelanto, Adrian Chivichon struck out eight over seven innings to lead the Saints in the regular-season finale.
Aksel Inzunza went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and one run to pace the offense.
For Barstow, Trevor Shenk struck out nine and allowed three earned runs over six innings.

Granite Hills 15, Silverado 2
At Apple Valley, the Cougars snapped the Hawks’ seven-game winning streak to close the regular season.
Alina Salgado went 3 for 4 with one RBI and one run; Mackinzie Gomez went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and one run; and Emily Marks hit a home run, drew two walks and finished with three RBIs and three runs.
Adelanto 11, Barstow 3
At Barstow, Ceonie Turner delivered a strong performance in the circle and at the plate for the Saints.
Turner struck out seven over five innings and hit a three-run triple.
Adriana Martinez went 4 for 4 with one run; Alyah Vidana went 2 for 4 with three runs; and Justine Rivera went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and one run.
Apple Valley 12, University Prep 2
At Victorville, the Sun Devils closed the regular season with a victory over the Jaguars.
Madison Buzzard went 2 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs, while Lexonnie Gonzalez went 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs. Makaylee Cerf went 2 for 3 with one run.
For University Prep, Jocelyn Lopez went 3 for 3 with one RBI.
Academy of Careers & Exploration 5, Hesperia Christian 4
At Hesperia, Izabella Sanchez struck out nine and allowed one earned run as the Eagles edged the Patriots.
Addison Shockley went 3 for 3 with a home run, three runs and one stolen base, while Bethany White went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
For Hesperia Christian, Eden Skinner went 2 for 4 with one RBI, one run and three stolen bases.
