George Kittle made his thoughts known about the San Francisco 49ers’ decision to bring back fellow tight end Jake Tonges. After the team re-signed Tonges on a two-year, $8 million deal, Kittle took to Instagram to post his praises.
“@jaketonges big dawg!!!” Kittle posted on his Instagram story, with Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys Are Back in Town” playing in the background.
Tonges enjoyed a breakout second season with San Francisco in 2025. He stepped up admirably when Kittle missed some time earlier in the year with an injury and caught 34 passes for 293 yards and five touchdowns. He didn’t have a single reception in his first two seasons in the NFL.
Now, with Kittle still recovering from an Achilles injury, Tonges could be poised for more opportunities early in 2026. The team clearly valued him enough to commit $5.5 million guaranteed, so Tonges will be a key part of the team this upcoming season alongside recent free-agent signing Mike Evans as well as star running back Christian McCaffrey.
