Star Wars-themed weddings becoming a galactic success

Star Wars fans now have the opportunity to get married in style — not in a galaxy far, far away —but right here in San Bernardino County.

County officials said they are making history by offering their first-ever “May the Fourth Be with You” wedding event on May 4, Star Wars Day.

On Monday, couples can tie the knot in a one-of-a-kind Star Wars-inspired nuptials at the Hall of Records in San Bernardino.

Led by Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Josie Gonzales, the special event will transform the ceremony space into a themed experience you won’t forget, county officials said.

Themed characters will be at the Hall of Records from 10 a.m. to noon, adding to the immersive and celebratory atmosphere.

Couples and guests are encouraged to join in the fun by dressing in themed attire, whether as a Jedi, Sith Lord, or other creature or droid from the Star Wars universe.

Marriage licenses and civil ceremonies will be available by appointment, and early scheduling is highly encouraged due to anticipated demand.

Weddings are also conducted at the San Bernardino County offices in Hesperia.

Galactic weddings venues

Across Las Vegas, wedding chapels and venues are reporting an increased interest in May 4 ceremonies, with themed packages designed to attract out-of-state couples looking to combine their wedding with a one-of-a-kind Las Vegas experience, according to Nevada Business.

More couples are traveling to Las Vegas for themed ceremonies that reflect their shared interests, according to the Clark County Clerk’s Office.

“Couples today want more than a ceremony—they want a moment that reflects who they are and what they love,” said Clark County Clerk Lynn Marie Goya, who oversees the Wedding Capital of the World weddings tourism promotion campaign.

“Las Vegas has always delivered on that promise, and now we’re observing the rise of weddings as shared cultural experiences. ‘May the Fourth [Be With You]’ is a perfect example of how we can turn a global fandom into a reason to travel, celebrate and get married here,” she said.

Southern California photographer Matt Reiter has many photos and galleries displayed on his social media accounts, including couples in Star Wars attire.

How popular are Star Wars-themed weddings?

Of the top 10 most pinned wedding themes on the social media site Pinterest, Star Wars was ranked No. 8, according to the New York-based Taylor & Hart.

The top listed themed weddings, according to Pinterest, included country, rustic, beach, nautical, vintage, classic and Harry Potter, respectively. Disney was ranked No. 9 and pastel No. 10.

Star-Wars-themed wedding party

A scan of the internet showed many Star Wars-themed weddings, with the wedding party dressed as a Jedi, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, storm or clone trooper, or other Sith Lord.

Some brides and bridesmaids were shown carrying flowers with lightsaber handles, while the groom and groomsmen wore Star-Wars-themed helmets, ties and socks.

During one wedding, a couple quoted a popular line used by Princess Leia, who told Han Solo “I love you.” Solo replied with, “I know.”

And of course, many of the wedding ceremonies included music by legendary composer and conductor John Williams, including the celebratory Throne Room theme used at the end of the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
