Literary agent Ken Sherman is set to join the Palm Springs Writers Guild’s Retreat to lead a “Pitch to an Agent” workshop. Open to new and experienced writers, the annual retreat will take place from June 28 to July 1 at the Zoso Hotel in Downtown Palm Springs.
The event was designed to bring together writers and experienced mentors for a weekend of instruction and inspiration in a wide range of genres, from fiction to memoir, and thriller to romance.
“In addition to the craft of writing, participants will be coached in the art of pitching stories and creating query letters,” said guild president Kristina Hoffman, “and will also have the opportunity to discuss their work in progress with Mr. Sherman. This is invaluable experience for any writer.”
Trouble with the rejection? We’ve got you covered. This summer’s keynote speech will be delivered by the Coachella Valley’s dynamic duo, New York Times Best-selling author Steven Rowley (The Guncle) and two-time Emmy winner Byron Lane (A Star Is Bored). Rowley and Lane will expound on every writer’s boogeyman: rejection.
Among the esteemed mentors is Hollie Overton, an international best-selling novelist, screenwriter and producer with more than a decade of experience. Her latest TV show, “Girl Taken,” is now airing on Paramount. Joining her is Eduardo Santiago, known for his compelling award-winning novel “Tomorrow They Will Kiss,” and Sara Marchant, author of the intriguing novella “The Driveway Has Two Sides” and the memoir “Proof of Loss.”
Also mentoring is Jayce Carter, a spicy romance writer with an impressive repertoire of 40 published novels and counting. Adding to this stellar lineup is David Putnam, a best-selling author renowned for his thrilling Bruno Johnson mystery series.
“Write, read, relax, repeat” is once again the motto for this unique four-day retreat, made affordable by the nonprofit Palm Springs Writer’s Guild to give everyone who wishes the opportunity to attend.
Join us each day for group breakfast and lunch, part of our all-inclusive package. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn from industry experts, connect with fellow writers and elevate your craft in the inspiring setting of Palm Springs. Writers will gain insights, learning tools and techniques with focused writing time and tailored one-on-one feedback. Evenings present networking opportunities with fellow writers, whether over a meal at one of Palm Springs’ many renowned restaurants or unwinding at the Hotel Zoso’s bar and pool.
Many who were there last summer are coming back. “I signed up as soon as registrations opened,” said memoirist Betty Anderson. “I can’t wait to be in such a warm and encouraging environment again.”
