The San Francisco 49ers won’t have four players on hand for Day 2 of training camp after the quartet all sustained injuries on the first day of practice.
According to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, offensive lineman Vederian Lowe, defensive linemen Gracen Halton and Andrew Farmer, and wide receiver Christian Kirk are all non-participants for Monday’s session.
Lowe is working through a high ankle sprain that is expected to keep him out for an extended period. He left Sunday’s practice early and opened the door for rookie Enrique Cruz to get some additional reps. It’s unclear whether the injury will push into the regular season, but in the meantime the 49ers will be scrambling to find offensive tackle depth to get them through camp.
Halton has a knee bruise, while Farmer is dealing with a back injury and Kirk is working through a calf issue.
Neither Halton nor Farmer were observed by reporters exiting Sunday’s practice. Kirk was seen leaving the field early with a trainer. There’s no clarity on the severity of the other three ailments or whether anyone from that trio will miss extended time.
It’s not out of the ordinary for a team to be extra cautious early in camp, but we’ll still be keeping an eye on that group’s participation (or lack thereof) as the preseason progresses.
