TEDxMacatawa seeks applicants for October edition of ideas-based event

TEDxMacatawa will return to the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts at Hope College this October. If you’ve been mulling an idea to pitch, now’s the time to share.

This year’s event is slated for Oct. 8, and marks the eighth iteration of the program in Holland. Organizers are encouraging anyone with an “idea worth spreading” to apply before June 20.

Vince Boileau, license holder for TEDxMacatawa, said the volunteer-driven event serves as a platform where local ideas can have a global impact.

“This year’s theme is ‘Embracing Uncertainty,’” Boileau said. “The conference wants to encourage ideas of resilience, hope, transformation and new ways of navigating uncertainty — in any sphere of our lives.”

The half-day event gives speakers up to 18 minutes to present a clear, well-informed idea that’s new and surprising.

After submissions are received, the TEDxMacatawa Speakers Committee will review ideas and invite the strongest applicants to submit a short video pitch. Then, the final line-up will be announced.

This year, organizers hope to have roughly eight main presenters, all of whom will have access to a speaking coach leading up to the event.
