Drivers headed to the Detroit Metro Airport over the weekend should plan for construction and intermittent closures on Interstate 94.
Utility crews will close eastbound and westbound I-94 from Middlebelt Road to Inkster Road near the Detroit Metro Airport for periods of 15 minute from 7 to 9 a.m. on Saturday and 6 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, according to a news release from the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Northbound and southbound Southfield Freeway (M-39) under I-94 will have one lane open from 5 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday, May 11.
Additionally, lane closures in the following areas along eastbound and westbound I-94 will begin Saturday at 5 a.m. and last throughout the summer:
On Monday, May 11, at 9 a.m., the eastbound I-94 ramp to Wayne Road will close until early June, according to MDOT.
At the same time, the westbound I-94 ramp to southbound M-39 will close until the fall, as well as the eastbound Van Born Road ramp to southbound M-39.
The construction is part of MDOT’s Restore94 a $353 million, multiyear project in Romulus, Taylor, Allen Park, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Melvindale.
Happening at the same time on an alternate route from Ann Arbor to Detroit is continued construction rebuilding the westbound side of M-14/Interstate 96 in Livonia and Plymouth Township in Wayne County.
