After operating for two years, the Dime Store’s Rochester Hills location will shutter.
In a Facebook post Wednesday, May 6, the spot known for breakfast, lunch and brunch announced the permanent closure of its Rochester Hills location. The last day of service will be Sunday, May 10, which is also Mother’s Day and a popular time for brunch.
“When we opened Dime Store Rochester Hills in 2024, we genuinely believed we were building something that would become a long-term part of the community. Over the past couple of years, we poured a tremendous amount of time, energy and heart into trying to make that happen,” according to the post.
Ultimately, the decision to close was financial.
“But restaurants ultimately have to work financially. The simple truth is that this one didn’t. We tried a lot of different things along the way to make it sustainable, but in the end we ran out of runway,” according to the post.
In Rochester Hills, the Dime Store is adjacent to and has an entrance to Papa Joe’s Gourmet Market on Rochester Road.
The restaurant was more than twice the size of the downtown Detroit Dime Store restaurant, which opened in 2014 on Griswold in the Chrysler House. The owners stated that the original Dime Store isn’t going anywhere.
“We’ll still be there doing what we’ve always done: scratch-made breakfast, brunch and lunch, the way we believe it should be,” the post read.
