Girls wrestling has only been a varsity sport for five years now but Two Rivers’ Angie Bianchi has solidified her claim to be the standard all others female wrestlers strive to be.
Bianchi, the 2026 Lakeshore Elite girls wrestler of the year, is the only girl to win this award.
She finished second at state at 120 pounds, ending her career with a pair of gold medals and two silver.
Her state championship match this season against Princeton/Green Lake’s Daelin Cody was a tough 4-3 decision which went in Cody’s favor after she rallied past Bianchi.
Bianchi has been so dominant that Cody, who was 47-0 entering the match, was seen as a major underdog.
That’s just the impact the Bianchi family has had on wrestling in the state of Wisconsin, with Angie Bianchi and three of her four brothers accounting for 10 total state championships.
With Bianchi wrestling her last match for Two Rivers it’s the end of the Bianchis competing at the varsity level but she will be moving on to Oklahoma State to compete at the collegiate level.
Angie is the fifth Bianchi to advance to the NCAA Division I level in their respective sports with four being wrestlers and one a cross country standout.
Pretty remarkable for a girl who while growing up wanted nothing to do with wrestling at all.
And while Bianchi is the wrestler of the year, Manitowoc Lincoln’s Emjay Neumann also deserves special recognition.
Neumann also ended her career this season and finished with a gold medal as a sophomore and three silvers. She lost the championship match at 114 to Lena’s Taylor Whiting in a 10-5 decision.
