Volusia County’s Supervisor of Elections office has a new home in DeLand.
The office has moved to 1588 N. Woodland Blvd. at the northwest corner of the International Speedway Boulevard intersection, near Sonny’s BBQ. The old address was 1750 S. Woodland Blvd. The move started a couple of months ago.
The new location allows Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis and her team to have more room and have everything in one location, she said. The warehouse had been in a separate location.
“We’re able to better serve them (voters) being all in one location, especially … those that come out and watch our testing with the Canvassing Board,” she said.
Features of the building include room for training poll workers and more space for early voting. Also, the county owns the building instead of leasing, she said.
The cost to the county for purchasing and refurbishing the building was about $12 million, she estimated.
Another issue with the former location: A leaking ceiling.
The only thing that will change for voters with the office move is the location. It will still offer the same services, including serving as an early voting location and a place to drop off vote-by-mail ballots, she said.
The office has sent notices of the move to all voters in Volusia County except in the city of Daytona Beach. Lewis has been waiting for the City Commission to decide on redistricting changes in case there are polling location changes to notify people of, too. But she will be sending notices to Daytona Beach residents soon about the move.
Lewis said her team planned to put a few finishing touches on the building, including a new entryway, before scheduling a ribbon-cutting for the community.
“I just want everybody to know that we are … open and we are here to assist when you call, come by, visit our website ― and to please just come check out our new facility soon,” she said.
