Grab the sunscreen: Hot, sunny weather expected for Fourth of July in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — Independence Day falls on a Friday, and the weather in Springfield is expected to be warm and sunny.

Friday will be sunny with a high near 93, according to the National Weather Service.

“Hot and seasonably muggy weather returns Friday into Saturday,” the weather service out of their Lincoln office wrote on the social media platform X.

There will be a 10% chance of seeing a stray storm on Independence Day, the Lincoln office said. There will be a 30 to 40% chance of seeing such a storm on Saturday.

Heat indices are predicted to reach 95-105 in central Illinois this weekend.

What’s the weather this week?

Wednesday will be sunny with a high near 87.

Thursday will be sunny with a high near 89.

Following Independence Day, Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 92. There is a 30% chance of showers.

Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 90. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
