WIAA State Team Tournament

MADISON – The Neenah boys tennis team’s season came to an end in the WIAA Division 1 state semifinals.

Brookfield Central defeated the Rockets 6-1.

Neenah’s victory in the match came at No. 2 singles, where sophomore Hunter Brown defeated Noah Weitzer 3-6, 6-2, 10-2.

Neenah, which was the No. 4 seed, finishes the season with a 17-5 record.

The top-seeded Lancers went on to win the state championship with a 5-2 win over No. 2 seed Middleton in the title match. Brookfield Central finished the season undefeated in dual matches with a 26-0 record.

The Lancers won their fifth state boys team championship.

University School of Milwaukee (13-2), the No. 1 seed in Division 2, won the championship with a 5-2 victory over third-seeded Altoona (23-2).

University School of Milwaukee has won 11 state championships.

GIRLS SOCCER

Division 1 sectional final

Kimberly 1, Eau Claire Memorial 0

SCHOFIELD – Brenna Wilson scored in the 34th minute for the game’s only goal to give the Papermakers the sectional title and a trip to state.

Vada Sousek assisted on the goal for Kimberly.

Kimberly improves to 17-3-2 and advances to state for the fourth time and the second year in a row.

Division 2 sectional final

Brookfield Central 2, Pulaski 0

PLYMOUTH – The Lancers advanced to state with the sectional final win over the Red Raiders.

Pulaski finishes the season with a 17-6-1 record.

Brookfield Central improves to 11-5-0 and advances to state for the first time since 2018 and the 15th time overall.

Division 3 sectional final

West Salem 2, Waupaca 1

MEDFORD – The Comets fell short of their first trip to the state tournament with the overtime loss in the sectional final.

Waupaca finishes the season with a 5-7-4 record.

Emily Graham scored 9 minutes, 59 seconds into overtime to give West Salem (16-3-1) its fifth win in a row and first trip to the state tournament.

Division 4 sectional final

Xavier 3, Howards Grove 1

FOX CROSSING – The Hawks advanced to the WIAA state tournament for the first time since 2014 with the win over the Tigers.

Xavier took a 3-0 lead in the first half with goals by Kayla Standish in the 10th minute, Helayna Krueger in the 23rd minute and Sydney Neilitz in the 39th minute.

Kate Jannette assisted on Standish’s goal, Eva Stankewicz on Krueger’s goal and Standish on Neilitz’s goal.

Howards Grove got its lone goal in the 56th minute from Kendall Holzwart on a corner kick.

Xavier is now 18-3-1, while Howards Grove finishes the season with a record of 18-2-1.
