Alex Freeman, the son of former Green Bay Packers receiver Antonio Freeman and a rising star in American soccer, scored a goal for the United States Men’s National Team during Friday’s World Cup matchup with Australia.
“He did WHAT?”
The headed goal, which came off a set piece, arrived after Sergino Dest’s shot at the top of the box was blocked and Freeman followed in for the rebound. While initially disallowed for offsides, a video review of the play showed Freeman onside, and the goal was allowed, giving the United States a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Freeman came up through the Orlando FC system. He joined the Spanish club Villarreal of La Liga during the 2026 season.
Antonio Freeman, who played eight seasons with the Packers, was a Super Bowl champion in 1996 and a Pro Bowler in 1998. He led the NFL in receiving yards in 1998 and was later inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame. You can read Cliff Christl’s Packers biography of Freeman here.
