SHEBOYGAN – Gateway Apartments is about halfway full since opening earlier this year.
About 50% of the units at the affordable apartment building on Erie Avenue have been rented as of mid-May, according to Karin Kirchmeier, CEO of Partners for Community Development.
The 44-unit building has four three-bedrooms, four two-bedrooms, and 36 one-bedrooms. Kirchmeier said only one-bedrooms are still available. Apartments are income-restricted.
Gateway initially had an April 1 goal to reach 100% occupancy, which was extended until June 1 because of construction delays that put the project several months behind schedule. Kirchmeier said she’s learned the deadlines are more of a target for investors.
The apartment building has a fitness room, laundry facilities, storage units and parking options. It’s also planning to offer on-site services, like résumé building and GED classes, in a community room.
Gateway has been hosting weekly open houses on Saturdays, where prospective residents can tour and learn more about eligibility requirements and the application process.
