June dining events in Milwaukee

Good morning,

Happy June! As I write this, my windows are flung open, birds are belting a chorus of chirps outside and there’s a breeze rustling the loose pile of scratch notes strewn about my (admittedly untidy) desk. Ah, I love this time of year.

The month kicked off with a brilliant start for me. On Monday, I met up with a high school friend who was in town for work. She went to culinary school and once worked as a pastry chef, so naturally, I wanted to show off Milwaukee’s food scene. As you may know, many restaurants are closed Mondays, but I was grateful that new-ish downtown Mediterranean spot āya had a table for us in its gorgeous dining room. As we shared tuna tartare, grilled octopus and a mezze sampler, our rhythm picked up where we left it the last time we saw each other. By our estimation, it had been 20 years. That dinner stretched to three hours (whoops), and we lingered a couple hours more while chatting at a nearby bar.

I introduced her to pull tabs (she’s from North Carolina) and she won $25 right off the bat! She’ll be back in August, and I’m already excited to plan where to take her next.

Because this is the beginning of the month, I thought I’d spend the rest of this newsletter sharing some exciting dining news to add to your calendar in the coming weeks. As always during Milwaukee summer, there’s almost too much going on.

That’s all for now! Whatever’s on your plate this month, I hope it’s delightful.

Happy dining,

Rachel
