Fox Valley communities prep as flood waters work through lake system

Winnebago County Emergency Management is monitoring water levels in several Fox Valley municipalities as flood waters from northern Outagamie County work their way through the Wolf River and into the Upriver Lakes, headed for Lake Winnebago and the Fox River.

While no evacuation order has been ordered by 9:55 p.m. April 22, the county is advising residents take preemptive measures.

The Wolf River in Shiocton and other neighboring communities crested April 21 after several days of rising water levels and flooding. It decreased 2 inches as of the morning of April 22.

According to a 4 p.m. post on Winnebago County Emergency Management’s Facebook page, the National Weather Service and Army Corp of Engineers anticipate water levels to increase slightly through the rest of this week on the Winnebago System.

It lists the following municipalities as making “proactive sandbagging efforts” to help mitigate flood damage:

Additionally, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office has enacted Slow No Wake provisions on all navigable waterways within the county.

The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for the Wolf River, Lake Poygan, the Fox River in Oshkosh and Lake Winnebago, all in effect until further notice.

Winnebago County residents with property damage and any unmet needs caused by flooding should call 211 or visit 211wisconsin.communityos.org/damage-report.
