Drone and K-9 help find wanted man in town of Friendship

FRIENDSHIP – A 50-year-old Rib Lake man was arrested in Fond du Lac County June 23 with a nationwide felony warrant from Iron County for burglary of a dwelling.

According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy on patrol at about 12:15 p.m. spotted a man riding a bicycle on Lakeshore Drive near Lone Elm Road in the town of Friendship and recognized him as a wanted suspect.

When the deputy attempted to make contact, the man fled down Lakeshore Drive, eventually abandoning the bicycle and continuing on foot into private property and out of sight.

Additional deputies responded to the area, as well as Wisconsin State Patrol troopers and City of Fond du Lac Police Department officers, establishing a perimeter to help locate and apprehend the suspect. With the use of a drone and a sheriff’s office police dog, law enforcement personnel found the suspect in dense marsh and took him into custody without further incident.

An ambulance transported him to a local hospital for medical clearance, after which he will be booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail.

The sheriff’s office said the suspect has an extensive criminal history, including resisting and obstructing law enforcement, as well as drug-related and theft-related offenses. The suspect’s name was not released.

Van Dyne First Responders and North Fond du Lac Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
