An 81-year-old man from Brookfield apparently drowned in Door County in the waters of the bay of Green Bay off Chambers Island.
The Door County Sheriff’s Office and Gibraltar Police Department each were notified at about 5:15 p.m. May 7 of a body found in the water on the northeast side of the island near a dock at Chambers Island Marina, 11000 Island Drive E in the Town of Gibraltar, according to a joint news release from the police department and sheriff’s office. The police department requested assistance from the sheriff’s office.
Responders to the scene recovered the body, who was identified as Michael J. Kennedy, 81, of Brookfield. Preliminary findings indicated foul play was not suspected as a cause of death, but the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office scheduled an autopsy for May 8, and the incident remains under investigation.
Responding to the scene along with members of the sheriff’s office and Gibraltar Police Department were emergency personnel from the Gibraltar Fire Department, Gibraltar Emergency Medical Responders, Wisconsin DNR and Door County Emergency Services.
