NEENAH – A pickup truck driving the wrong way on Interstate 41 in Winnebago County hit four vehicles Friday, May 8, sending five people to area hospitals, authorities said.
Wrong-way driver reported near Winneconne Avenue on I-41
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office said it received multiple calls May 8 about a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes near Winneconne Avenue in Neenah.
Deputies located a full-size pickup truck near Breezewood Lane and attempted to stop it.
Pursuit ends after pickup collides with four vehicles
The sheriff’s office said the truck continued southbound, used an emergency turnaround and then traveled northbound in the southbound lanes.
Deputies pursued the vehicle after the driver failed to comply, authorities said.
The truck later struck four vehicles, causing significant damage.
Five injured, transported by ambulance and helicopter
Five patients were taken to local hospitals by ambulance and helicopter, the sheriff’s office said. The extent of their injuries was not released.
Assisting agencies included the Fox Crossing, Neenah and Grand Chute police departments; the Wisconsin State Patrol; Fox Crossing, Grand Chute and Neenah-Menasha fire departments; Gold Cross Ambulance; and ThedaCare ThedaStar.
