A lottery ticket sold in northwest Iowa has won the $100,000-a-year prize in the new Millionaire for Life game, marking what the Iowa Lottery called “Iowa’s first big win” since the game launched in 30 states and the District of Columbia in February.
The Iowa Lottery said the winning numbers in were 14, 16, 21, 43 and 51. The ticket missed the Millionaire Ball number ― 3 ― which would have won its buyer the top prize of $1 million a year.
The ticket was sold at the Brew convenience store, 210 W. Main St. in Sac City, the lottery said in a news release.
Millionaire for Life is a $5 lotto game with nightly drawings. Players select five numbers from a pool of 58 white balls and one Millionaire Ball number from a separate pool of five. Matching all six numbers wins the game’s top prize, while matching the first five numbers without the Millionaire Ball wins the game’s second prize.
Lottery officials said the game’s top two prize levels are guaranteed for at least 20 years, though winners also can choose a lump-sum cash option instead of annual annuity payments. Other prize levels in the game range from $8 to $7,500.
Prizes at the game’s top two levels must be claimed at Iowa Lottery headquarters in Clive.
