A new travel center is set to open in the near future on the north edge of Wichita Falls.

Faizur Rahman of Richardson said Wednesday his company plans to open a Bengal Pantego Plaza on the east side of Interstate Highway 44 at Bacon Switch Road on the site of a former fireworks stand.

Rahman said it will be an 8,000 square foot building on a 20-acre tract.

He said the $3 million project will include two restaurants, a convenience store, a truck repair shop and a laundry facility for truckers.

Rahman said one restaurant would be a sit-down type, and the second would be more like a coffee shop.

He said the facility would be open 24/7 and would employ 25 to 30 people.

The Wichita Falls Planning and Zoning Commission was scheduled to discuss zoning for the property Wednesday afternoon. Construction is scheduled to begin July 24 with completion on May 10, 2027.

Rahman praised Wichita Falls city officials.

“The city of Wichita Falls is great, you know. It’s really a pleasure to work with them,” he said.

He said his company has 11 similar centers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
