Texas Tech announces JT Toppin's return for 2026-27 season

The star of the show is returning for another year in Lubbock.

On Wednesday, the Texas Tech Red Raiders confirmed on social media that 2025 Big 12 Player of the Year JT Toppin will return for another season, coming off of a torn ACL suffered earlier this year before the NCAA Tournament.

The Red Raiders posted a video on their official account in which Toppin is shown walking up to a locker and putting on his Texas Tech jersey. The video is captioned, “26-27.”

Toppin underwent surgery on a torn ACL that was suffered in late February, and to this point, very few details have been released pertaining to his recovery timeline.

The 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward earned All-American honors from the Associated Press and the Wooden Award after averaging 21.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, with 16 double-doubles last season.

The Red Raiders lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament earlier this year with Toppin sidelined, but there are high hopes for the new year once again with their star player back on the court.
