Wichita Falls Blue Cross-Blue Shield employees to work remotely

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is sending its Wichita Falls workers home.

The health insurer’s media office told the Times Record News on Monday employees at the facility on Southwest Parkway “will shift from a partially remote work schedule to fully remote work. As a result, we are consolidating our physical footprint.”

The company did not respond Monday to a question about how many workers would affected.

“We continuously evaluate our workforce and business operations to ensure that we are effective and productive as we meet the challenges of an evolving health care industry,” the company said.

On its website, Blue Cross Blue Shield describes itself as a national association of independent, community-based and locally operated BCBS companies.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas opened a claims service office in a refurbished former Food Emporium building at 2215 Southwest Parkway in 1998, according to a Jan 8, 1998, article in the Times Record News. The 77,000 square-foot building had been vacant since 1987. The project received a $400,000 boost from local sales tax dollars from the then-new Wichita Falls Sales Tax Corp.

A July 26, 2018, article said the location here had started with 80 employees, grew to 300 and added another 100 that year.

“We remain committed to our employees and the communities we serve and will continue to work in collaboration with local partners to help create healthier communities,” the company said in its response to TRN on Monday.
