UNT, NC State games off Texas Tech football 2027 schedule

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

The Texas Tech football team is suddenly in the market for two non-conference football games in 2027 with the Red Raiders’ schedule no longer including a home game against North Carolina State and a road game at North Texas.

Tech announced the developments on Friday, April 17.

NC State officials told their Tech counterparts recently that because of a change in Atlantic Coast Conference scheduling, they are exercising a contract buyout on the 2027 game in Lubbock. That was the return game on a two-game series in which Tech played at NC State in 2022.

To keep at least six home games for 2027, Tech announced it will cancel its game against North Texas in Denton.

Tech’s announcement said it is “in the process of securing a replacement power conference opponent for the 2027 season as well as another non-conference game to replace North Texas.”

The 2027 North Texas game had been scheduled for Sept. 11 and the NC State game for Sept. 18.

“We have actively been working on our 2027 football schedule for several weeks now and hope to have a new agreement with a power conference and FBS school finalized soon,” Tech athletics director Kirby Hocutt said in the announcement.
