A 17-year-old is charged with three counts of aggravated assault following an officer-involved pursuit early Saturday in Lubbock that left three other teenagers in his car injured.
An officer initially attempted a traffic stop about 12:18 a.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes of 82nd Street and Frankford Avenue, according to a Lubbock police news release.
However, police say the vehicle’s driver, 17-year-old Xavier Alaniz, did not stop, prompting the officer to initiate a pursuit.
The passenger car was traveling south on Frankford Avenue. As the car began to turn east on to 114th Street, Alaniz lost control of the vehicle, at which point the car went over a curb and struck a light pole.
The front passenger, Kaitlee Miller-Cepak, 17, and back left passenger, Kynslee Mitchell, also 17, were taken to Covenant Medical Center, while a 16-year-old male, who was also in the back seat, was taken to University Medical Center. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
In addition to the three counts of aggravated assault, Alaniz is also charged with reckless driving as well as evading arrest.
The investigation is ongoing.
