With only weeks to go before the Republican U.S. Senate primary runoff in Texas, the candidates have release new political ads on the airwaves.
Attorney General Ken Paxton released his first runoff television ad Saturday, May 2, attacking incumbent U.S. Sen. John Cornyn for “pushing amnesty” and criticizing President Donald Trump’s border wall.
The ad features clips of Cornyn, R-TX, saying Americans are “compassionate” and would find a way to “deal” with 12 million illegal immigrants along with other clips where he called Trump’s border wall initiative “naive.”
“John Cornyn not only pushed amnesty in the Senate, but he went one step further by telling Texans to just deal with it,” Paxton said in a news release. “You would be hard pressed to find a career politician more out-of-touch than John Cornyn.”
“Promoting amnesty isn’t the only way that John Cornyn has helped illegals,” he continued. “He has repeatedly criticized President Trump’s border wall, saying it ‘makes no sense’ and even calling it ‘naive.’ Texans deserve better than someone who thinks border security is naive.”
Cornyn attacks Paxon over Muslim community development
Cornyn launched his own attack on Friday, May 1, blasting Paxton for not stepping in to halt EPIC City, a Muslim community development in North Texas.
“Ken Paxton says he’s a conservative warrior fighting for Texas,” the digital ad states. “But when we needed him to prosecute EPIC City and stop foreign entities from bringing Sharia Law to Texas, something didn’t add up.”
“Other state agencies actually stopped the development, filed federal complaints, and obtained court orders, the ad continues. “Paxton? Just press releases. No investigations, no enforcement, no results.”
The winner of the May 26 runoff election will face state Rep. James Talarico, D-Austin, in the November General Election.
