Multiple shifts in latest SEC football power rankings entering Week 8 slate

The Texas A&M Aggies received a massive bump in this week’s Southeastern Conference power rankings after capturing the program’s third consecutive league win against the Florida Gators at Kyle Field on Saturday night.

Head coach Mike Elko continues to lead the Maroon and White to historic heights in just his second season at the helm, as the 6-0 start for the Aggies marks the best start since former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin’s 2016 squad. Texas A&M was not the only SEC team to secure a key win over the weekend, as the Alabama Crimson Tide survived Missouri’s late-game heroics in a hostile environment in CoMo.

After being placed at No. 3 in last week’s power rankings, the Ole Miss Rebels dropped two spots following a lackluster performance against Washington State. Meanwhile, Texas quarterback Arch Manning silenced the doubters to capture his first Golden Hat in a 23-6 victory over a returning John Mateer and the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Showdown.

Another rivalry during the weekend slate added more controversy to its storied history, as head coach Kirby Smart found a way to coach his team through the upset alert at Auburn, while Tennessee and LSU also avoided near upsets to road conference foes in Arkansas and South Carolina, respectively.
