Texas A&M’s offense erupts in 17–3 run‑rule over UConn in regional

No. 4 seed Texas A&M opened the College Station Regional with a statement, run‑ruling UConn 17–3 behind a historic second inning Friday afternoon at Davis Diamond.

After a quiet first frame, the Aggies detonated for a program‑record 13 runs in a single NCAA Regional inning, sending 19 batters to the plate during a 40‑minute bottom of the second. A&M collected 10 hits off five Huskies pitchers, marking the most runs scored in an NCAA Tournament inning since 2023. It was a welcome eruption for an offense that had battled inconsistency down the stretch.

It wasn’t just the bats. Sidne Peters set the tone in the circle, striking out seven over three innings while allowing only one hit- a solo homer in the third. Sophomores Kate Munnerlyn and Sydney Lessentine closed out the final two frames, combining for three hits, two runs, and a strikeout apiece.

Defensively, the Aggies were sharp. The infield handled multiple hard‑hit balls cleanly, including two strong plays at shortstop to secure the final outs. A&M finished the run‑rule win without committing an error.

With the victory, Texas A&M advances to Saturday afternoon’s winner’s bracket game, where they’ll face the winner of Arizona State vs. McNeese.
