UPDATED: Police detail murder allegations from bar shooting

A man was arrested for a murder charge in connection with the shooting death of Shedarius Cochran, 32, early Sunday at a Wichita Falls bar, police said.

Ray Dale Kelley Jr., 18, of Wichita Falls was being held Friday morning in the Wichita County Jail on a $1 million bond, online jail records show.

Murder is punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison. Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Wichita Falls police Sgt. Jacob Vasquez said in an email Friday that officers were dispatched to the Stoneridge Apartments at 500 Fillmore Street about 10:45 p.m. Thursday and found Kelley in a disturbance with his father.

They arrested him on the murder warrant, and he was taken into custody without incident, Vasquez said.

He was booked into the jail early Friday, according to online records.

Cochran was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at the Backend bar at 2509 Sheppard Access Road about 4 a.m. Sunday, according to a Wichita Falls Police media release. He died a short time later at United Regional Health Care System.

Court documents detail murder allegations

Allegations in an arrest warrant affidavit filed in the case said police were notified of a large fight at the bar and that shots had been fired and someone had been hit.

When officers arrived on the scene they found Cochran lying in the parking lot with wounds to his upper torso and legs.

The document said witnesses told police there had been several altercations in the parking lot involving a group of males.

The affidavit said detectives found five spent .40 caliber bullet casings at the scene, and surveillance video that shows Cochran walking with his hands raised at his sides while a group of people walk toward him.

Five gunshots are heard, and Cochran falls to the ground as the subjects following him scatter, the affidavit said.
